Indian Education System

In the Indian system, higher education (tertiary education) starts after the 10+2 stage i.e. Ten years of primary and secondary education followed by Two years of senior secondary education which is equivalent to 11th grade (Attestat) in Tajikistan.

The academic programs are offered at Diploma, Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral levels.

The academic year in India usually starts in the month of July. However, some institutions have the academic year beginning in August/September.

 

 

Scholarship Programme by the Embassy of India, Dushanbe

The Embassy of India, Dushanbe provides two kinds of Scholarships to Tajikistan.

Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) scholarship:

On behalf of Government of India, ICCR offers scholarships and fellowships to international students for Doctoral, post-graduate, under-graduate courses, classical music, dance, painting, sculpture etc for 30 students from Tajikistan every year. The airfare, hostel stay, contingency for books, and living allowance during the study period is provided by the Government of India. The advertisement for the screening test is published in the second week of December every year in local newspapers in Tajikistan. The screening test is conducted at the Embassy of India in the month of January. The screening test (written exam and interview) is basically testing English language skills of the students.

Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC)

ITEC courses were launched in 1964 by GOI to offer training in professional, technical and vocational subjects for developing countries. Up gradation of skills is the main objective of the programme. The ITEC programme is only for those working in the Government, government organization and NGOs who want to upgrade their professional and vocational skills. The training is offered by over 45 institutions in different parts of India and the programme covers over 206 training courses. Training courses cover a wide variety of subjects like Information Technology, Parliamentary studies, Accounts & finance, Mass communication, English language course, Rural Development, Teachers training, bank management, Educational planning & administration, Entrepreneurship development, Standardization & Quality control, Food Technology, Fertilizer quality control, Tool design, Poultry training, Manpower research, Statistical education, Small business development, Water resources etc. Most of the courses are short-term courses.
The information about the course and duration is communicated to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tajikistan every year. There are 100 slots for Tajikistan every year. Only 2 candidates from Tajikistan are allowed for each course. Application forms are submitted two months in advance through the respective Ministries or organizations to the Embassy. An interview for basic English is conducted at the Embassy and the applications are sent to India for final selection. Priority is given to those who never gone to India.

Are the Programs offered by Indian Institutions Recognized?

The Universities / Institutions offering professional and technical courses in India need recognition by the national level statutory bodies established for the maintenance of quality standards in higher education system. Indian Degrees are recognized worldwide. Over 200 of the Fortune 500 companies recruit from Indian campuses regularly.

What conditions do I have to meet if I want to study in India?

You must possess Senior Secondary / GCE `A' level / any other examination equivalent to 12 years of schooling in India, with sufficient knowledge of English, for admission to undergraduate programmes. However for entry into Diploma programs, the qualification required is 10 years of schooling. The 11th grade (Attestat) of Tajikistan is considered equivalent to 10+2 system of Indian Education.

Do I need to give GRE, GMAT, TOEFL, IELTS or any other test?

No. Indian Universities do not insist for the above scores. However, since the academic programmes are taught in English, proficiency in English is a must. One should have studied for qualifying examination in English or English should have been one of the main subjects.

I have no clue about India. How do I find the right institute?

Ministry of Human Resource Development [HRD], Government of India has authorized `Educational Consultants India Limited (Ed.CIL)', for the placement of International Students in Indian institutions for Higher Education. Ed.CIL has tie ups with large number of Universities/Institutions spread all across India, which offers wide spectrum of courses in various disciplines One can approach Ed.CIL for further details on Study in India. Depending on your requirement for the course/place/paying capacity, etc,. Ed.CIL will provide with a variety of options with regard to institutions and fee structures to choose from.

Who will I turn to for advice when I am in India?

All institutions have foreign student advisers, who will always be available for guidance. Ed.CIL will remain your local guardian throughout your stay in India, if you are placed through Ed.CIL.

What options of accommodation can I have during my Study?

Most institutions will provide hostel accommodation for the International students in the institute hostels. However, students who wish to stay outside can do so.

Is there any health care facility for overseas students?

Most of the Indian Institutions have their own health centres where the students are treated for minor ailments. However, for specialised/major treatments, the students have to contact hospitals outside the campus. If students require, the institute will help the students to get a medical insurance cover.

What is the Cost of Study in India?

What is the Cost of Living in India?

Living expenses are minimal in India. You can live comfortably within US$ 200 a month to cover food and other expenses.

Will I be able to get a Grant/Scholarship?

Indian Universities/Institutions do not provide grants for study. Indian Embassy, Dushanbe conducts special screening test in the month of January every year and selects students who wish to study in India. What is the procedure involved in coming to India for higher education?

For coming to India for higher education, one would require a student Visa. You need to produce confirmed letter of admission from University/Institution in India for obtaining the student visa.
